Martha Sturdy’s sculptural practice explores the primal qualities of raw materials, merging industrial processes with organic elements to reflect natural forces and textures. Working with resin, brass, steel, aluminium, and reclaimed wood from the Canadian landscape, Sturdy employs a physically intensive approach that highlights the inherent character and power of each material.
Her work has been widely recognised by collectors and design leaders internationally, featured in publications including Vogue, Wallpaper*, Wall Street Journal, Harper’s Bazaar España, and Architectural Digest. Sturdy holds notable honours such as induction into the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts and an Honorary Doctorate from Emily Carr University of Art + Design, and continues to be represented by leading galleries in North America and Asia.
